January highlights

31st January 2015
The weather was great the first few days of this year. On the 3rd of January in glorious sunshine we held our “Walk off your Christmas spirit” a 7 ½ mile walk around Castlemilk Park and Cathkin Breas Country Park.

Walking through Castlemilk Park on our "Walk off your Christmas spirit" event

For the rest of the month we had truly awful weather, with yellow and amber weather warning for snow, ice and high winds. The warning resulted in many cancelled or postponed events including 1 forest kindergarten session, 2 volunteer sessions, 1 cup of tea in the park and the outdoors part of our photo walks club. On the plus side the snowy weather did make the park look particularly photogenic.

For more photos like this one visit our winter gallery.

The wintering kingfisher, first spotted in November was seen regularly throughout the month, often seen perched on a tree on the island of the pond. Along the burn a pair of Dippers have started to sing and great spotted woodpeckers have been drumming in the tree near the Stables. Snowdrops are starting to show and should look their best mid – late February, check out the events section for information on our snowdrop strolls.
